Hornblower and the “Atropos” – Audiobook On-line

Hornblower and the “Atropos” is a literary fiction e-book by writer C.S. Forester.
After a modest incident on a ship within the Cotswolds, younger Captain Horatio Hornblower arrives in London to take command of the Atropos. A 22-gun gun simply large enough to want a captain. Her first project beneath Hornblower’s command was to be flagship for Lord Nelson’s funeral. Atropos was a part of the Mediterranean Fleet’s Napoléon raid, recovering treasure deep in Turkish waters and difficult a Spanish frigate many occasions its dimension. On the coronary heart of every journey is Hornblower, Forrester’s most inspiring creation, whose mix of cautious preparation and spirited execution dazzles mates in addition to enemies.

Patrick Manee narrates ridiculously ridiculous. He reads painfully slowly and repeatedly goes into bizarre singsong mode, stretching vowels to ridiculous ranges when studying dialogue. Perhaps it is okay to begin off with a country barge-driver’s speech; but it surely’s utterly misplaced that Hornblower is claimed to be capturing orders throughout a disaster. Christian Rodska, the narrator of a lot of Hornblower’s different novels, is persistently wonderful, and his efficiency shines even brighter than this rendering.
I discovered the story disappointing as properly. Though it is abridged, uninteresting scenes appear drawn: for instance, the opening journey down canals and rivers to London. It’s not a patch for Lieutenant Hornblower or Mr Midshipman Hornblower.
